It was nice to spend time with family over the holidays. My kids and their cousins getting together to play and have fun! It was a time to relax and re-energize for what might be a very interesting 2007 in both the micro and macro world of our lives.
The Democrats in both the US House and Senate take over. In Minnesota, we have the DFL taking more control in the House and Senate. I also heard this morning 22 bills have been introduced and that a majority were for tax increases! Wow! In a state where we have a $2.7 Billion budget surplus, they want to soak us some more.
Anyway, back to the subject at hand. My son's middle school is going ahead with NNCW (No Name Calling Week). I have a meeting with a few very concerned parents and the district administrators and the school board meets next week.
The school has assured us the curriculum is not coming from NNCW or GLSEN, but created from their own internal documents. They did send out a new 'blurb' on the upcoming events, but it was not very detailed.
My fear is that a district employee has tapped into NNCW and GLSEN and they have the name of this person. This organization is not dumb. They know what they are doing and do it very well. Calls and emails will be made to those who have asked for more information and they will be asking if the school is participating in NNCW.
Their goal: To gain acceptance into the schools that this type of curriculum and this type of behavior is needed and normal.
